Dr. Roy passion about teaching which complements his research perfectly. He has been teaching for several years and has teaching experience from many institutions in the past including Florida International University, James Madison University, University of Guam, etc. Currently, he teaches microbiology, medical microbiology, medical Immunology, and independent research (neuroscience) to undergraduate students and second-year medical students. Over the past seventeen years, he has been deeply interested in utilizing different teaching methods, technology, and online tools to enhance teaching methods and delivery. Dr. Roy has designed and developed a new course and created a new book manual. He developed a complete online course for Microbiology lecture and laboratory that is certified by Quality Matters. He enjoys teaching and interacting with students, whether in the classroom or online. His teaching philosophy is to learn to apply the knowledge to real-world scenarios. Additionally, he is a part of an NIH-funded training grant for the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Research Training Program at UTRGV.
Dr. Roy has developed an experiential learning course for biomedical science where students are presented with the opportunity to travel abroad and participate in a BMED course designed to broaden their exposure to the field of biomedical sciences. This innovative study abroad program is inclusive, welcoming students from various majors to attend, thereby providing them with valuable insights and experiences in the biomedical field.
